Prof. Joseph Mak


Joseph Mak is the Chief Structural Engineer ( retired in May 2014) of the Hong Kong Housing Authority.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1977 and completed his Master degree in the same university in 1988.  He is a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers, UK and as well as Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.  He joined the Hong Kong Housing Department in 1983 as a structural engineer and has more than 30 years of experience in the public service.  Joseph also initiated the certification of building products used by the Housing Authority and led the development of testing and related quality programmes for the Authority.  Before his promotion to Chief Structural Engineer, Joseph was involved in the design and construction of large scale public housing and commercial centres as well as the supporting infrastructures in the public housing estates.
